Performance: Quarter and Eighth Rhythms
Today we worked on rhythm with the song Sweet Beets. We started with doing call and response Beet/Cherry rhythms with instruments. Then listened and performed with the song. Check out the youtube video with your Mini Maestro at home and see if they can do the rhythms!
We also talked about how Beet and Cherry can be quarter notes and eighth notes and did call and response with Ta's and Ti-Ti's. You can see some examples of these on their take home music.
Repertoire: Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker
We talked about The Nutcracker, what a ballet is, and how there's music and dance, but no words. We then read the story of The Nutcracker. We put on the music for the ballet and made Nutcrackers to bring home. The kids were commenting on how it sounded like the rat king or when Clara danced. I recommend you go see the Atlanta Ballet perform this next month!
Instrument: The Violin
Finally, we took a guess at what the instrument today was and carefully inspected a violin. We saw the bow, counted the strings, and carefully tried to play it.
