ztunes music Composition Competition
The Ztunes Composition Competition is dedicated to the promotion of excellence in music composition at the student level. Composition Competition guidelines are set and regulated by Ztunes Music. The Competition is open to all Georgia students in K-12.
2021 Ztunes Composition Competition Dates:
Application Deadline: March 15, 2021
Winners Announcement: March 26, 2021
Winners Recital: TBA
Prizes
Grand Prize: Finale License ($600 value!)
1st Prize in each division: $50 gift certificate to PianoWorks (Elementary), Opus Music (Middle), or Music and Arts (High).
Runner Up in each division: Virtual Membership to Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Participation
Participation in the competition is open to all grade school students (ages 5-18) in the state of Georgia. There will be three divisions:
- Elementary (grades K-5)
- Middle (6-8)
- High (9-12)
Originality/Prior Performances
Submitted compositions must be 100% original. Previous performances of the submitted composition are allowed, provided that they are not high-profile, professionally archived/recorded, or otherwise in a format that would meaningfully detract from the “new music” or “premiere” status of the "Composition Competition" format. We aim for these pieces to receive their “world premiere” on the winners’ concert!
Instrumentation
Compositions must be scored for instrument(s) that can be easily programmed onto a recital later this Spring. Instrumentation therefore should be kept to small chamber ensembles (4 instruments at most), with preference being given to works for solo instrument (i.e. solo piano, solo flute, etc.) because those pieces will be the easiest to program on the winner’s concert.
Length
Elementary: maximum of 3 minutes, no minimum
Middle: between 2 and 5 minutes
High: between 3 and 10 minutes
