Winter 1 - Week 1 - mini maestros
This week we were introduced to the instruments of the orchestra, played our first note C and quarter note beats, and learned about Mozart and The Magic Flute!
Performance: Hello C, Sweet Beet
We utilize the Preschool Prodigies curriculum for Mini Maestros. Today we learned and played Hello C on Chimes and/or Desk Bells. You can play this together at home on a piano/keyboard, toy xylophone, or any music making instrument with the video linked above. Most of the time on toys - C is red just like we use in class! We played the song together and were introduced to Solfege names (C = Do).
We followed Hello C with a song called Sweet Beet on Boomwhackers. While keeping a steady quarter note beat, we did call and response rhythm patterns on our boomwhackers - including rests!

Repertoire: Mozart: The Magic Flute
We read the story of Mozart's The Magic Flute together while the opera played in the background.
We talked about Mozart, how he wrote the melody for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, started playing and composing as a 5 year old, and colored a picture of him while talking about the sounds we were hearing in The Magic Flute. I've included videos of my two personal favorite songs from the Magic Flute to watch together.
Instrument: Flute ("Magic Flute")
We got to check out the flute and how wind instruments work with air. We even tried to make a sound - much harder than we anticipated!
