October 25, 2017 - mini maestros
Today we learned about steady beat and brass!
Performance: Steady Beat
We began the class at the piano and learned how to find the Ds (the 2 black keys together are the doghouse). We put on a metronome, played our Ds with it while Ms. Karen played our Hello song for the day.
We each got a "steady beat sword" and marched around to find the beat to the Star Wars Imperial March. We made the beat BIG in the circle when the music was loud and SMALL when the music was soft.
We took a look at the Brass instruments of the orchestra, learned how to buzz into our hands, and tried to play trumpet! Our special guest, Nathan Zgonc, joined us to show off the trombone. He played Star Wars and "Coconut Cream Pie" aka Ride of the Valkyries.
Repertoire: Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries
We put on the music for Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, and found sections where we should march, swing our steady beat swords, or sneak around.
We ended with Star Wars one more time and did a great job listening to the Brass while keeping the Beat!
I've included a coloring pages of a Valkyrie similar to those found in the opera. I'd love it if the kids brought in a coloring page for me to hand in the studio!
